Here is a quick tip to all those who are investigating SAP HANA for the first time. I have found that a common mistake people make when they first start using HANA is not granting access to their schema to the “_SYS_REP” user. This can be very tricky because the error message HANA gives does not say it did not have sufficient privileges or access, it just throws an error with no description – leaving the developer with no clues as to why all their views or procedures refuse to activate. Fixing this is quite easy of course:

GRANT SELECT ON <SCHEMA> TO _SYS_REPO WITH GRANT OPTION

Hopefully HANA will improve its error messages in future releases. But if you are having problems activating, double check to make sure you have done this.
